Jaguar Recalls 5,000 XK and XF Due to Engine Stalling

It seems that the latest “trend” in U.S. recall fashion is to have issues with the fueling system.

A few days ago, BMW said that it will recall a certain number of the 5 Series and 5 Series GT models due to a problem with the fuel sensor (this could cause the fuel gauge to show an incorrect amount of fuel). Earlier today, Nissan announced a recall for 51,000 units of the Cube over the vehicle’s fuel leakage subsequent to rear impact test fail (after suffering a rear impact at 50 mph, the Cube's fuel leakage exceeded the accepted level, potentially causing a fire).

Now, it is Jaguar’s turn. The British automotive producer announced that it will recall 5,048 units of the XF and XK models, belonging to the 2010 and 2010-2011 model years, respectively. The reason? A fuel shortage that can lead to the engine’s stalling and increase the risk of a crash.

The Jags’ problem is caused by the electric fuel pump located in the trunk, which might not be re-energised once the car is restarted.

"The in-tank electric fuel pump may not be correctly activated as the fuel pump relay is not energized following a vehicle startup cycle.An inadequate supply of fuel to the engine could result. Fuel starvation to the engine leads to engine stumble followed by engine cutout with minimal warning and could potentially cause a crash," a NHTSA reports stated.
