Don Clift: his brother died.
Robert A. Clift
Robert Arthur Clift June 16, 2010 Robert A. Clift, 83, WWII private first class in the US Marine Corps and recipient of the Purple Heart, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 in Portland, ME after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born July 10, 1926 in Syracuse, NY, the son of Arthur F. and Carrie (Claxton) Clift. He was drafted and joined into the Marines in 1944 at the age of 18 where he served for two years and was stationed in Guam and Okinawa. He was wounded in action in the Battle of Kunishi Ridge in Okinawa in 1945. He was also stationed in China for one year following World War II. After the war, Robert attended Syracuse University's College of Forestry where he received his degree in Forestry. He completed a summer intern program at S.D. Warren Paper Company before beginning his career there. Initially, he was part of the Research Laboratory and then he joined the Technical Department for the remainder of his 40 years before his retirement in 1990. While living in Westbrook, he served as a Boy Scout Leader in the local troop. After moving to Windham, he led the American Field Service as president and actively participated for many years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary G. Clift of Windham; son, Bruce and wife, Nancy (Wendelken) Clift of Standish, ME and grandchildren, Alison and Sam; daughter, Donna (Clift) Witherill and husband, Don of Readfield, ME and grandchildren, Jackson and Kara; son, David and wife, Anne (Eckert) Clift of Jericho, VT and grandsons, Douglas and Alexander; and daughter, Johanna S. Clift and partner, Gwen Chase of Pittsfield, ME. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Clift and his wife, Johanna B. of Arcadia, Florida. Robert was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, sharing his passion for hiking, gardening, nature and camping. He and his family spent many memorable summers at the old family camp on Sebago Lake. Nothing gave him as much enjoyment as spending time with his children and their children and extended family. Robert enjoyed reading, philately, family genealogy and vegetable and flower gardening at home with his family. Robert's remains will be inurned in the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. By his request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robert's memory to the Maine Medical Center.
Bob Conklin Sr: he died.

Robert Bob Conklin Sr. July 2, 2010 Robert Bob Conklin Sr., age 72, of Adrian, passed away, July 2, 2010, at Toledo Hospital. He was born May 9, 1938, in Herkimer, NY. Bob was retired from Delphi in Adrian. He enjoyed doing yard work and security work in Friendly Village, along with being with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lucena Conklin; his companion, Ann Trynow; his children, Freda (Michael Tremblay) Conklin, Colleen (Henry) Damon, Robert T. (Annette) Conklin Jr., James Helm, Darlene (George) Bowers, Ron (Chris) Williams Jr., Judy (Ted Goodell) McFarland, Robert T. (Angie) Conklin III and Giesla Roberts; 21 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and his aunts, Margaret, Allie and Kay. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy (Conklin) Menk. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2010, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian. Burial will follow in Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, Adrian, with Military Honors performed by the Adrian VFW Post 1584 Annis Fint. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Hastings, NY -- A Hastings woman was killed when her car was struck from behind as she turned into her Route 11 driveway Monday.
Carrie Cook, 36, was driving south on Route 11 when her Ford was hit by a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Rikki Moosbrugger, 19, of 155 Hogsback Road, Hastings.
Cook's vehicle was spun into the northbound lane where it was struck by a Chevrolet pickup driving by Karl Moseuk, 45, of 310 Johnson Road, Parish.
The crash, which happened right around noon, drove Moosbrugger's Blazer into the right guardrail where it caught fire. Moseuk's truck drove off the left side of the road into a stone wall.
Cook was taken by SOVAC ambulance to Upstate University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Moosbrugger was taken by NOCA ambulance to to Upstate with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
No tickets have been issued, but the Oswego County Sheriff's Office said the crash remains under investigation.

Carrie A. Cook June 14, 2010 Carrie A. Cook, 36, of Central Square, was a loving giving person who was tragically taken away from her family in a car accident, Monday, June 14, 2010. She will be remembered for her loving spirit and sense of humor. Carrie was a graduate of A.P.W. in Parish. Some of her achievements were receiving her Girl Scout Gold Award, volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House, March of Dimes, and The Central Square Trailblazers as treasurer and pancake queen. Carrie was soon to be a graduate of OCC Nursing program and she worked part-time at University Hospital where she was continuing her goal of helping others. She was pre-deceased by her daughter, Elizabeth.
Carrie is survived by her loving husband of 13 years, Joseph; parents, Ernest (Corky) and Mary Anne Fleegel; sisters, Mindi (Tim) Hess and Leanne Foy; a brother, Eric Fleegel; nephew, Mason Foy; niece, Jamie Hess; mother-in-law, Marilou Cook; brothers-in-law, Al and Steve Cook; sister-in-law, Megan Cook; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Joyce Fleegel; maternal grandmother, Anna Baldwin; adopted grandmother, Bertene DiGregorio; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Calling hours will be Thursday, June 17, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the WATSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 631 S. Main St., Central Square. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 18, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Central Square. Oswego – Jay R. Gunther Sr., 72, a resident of East Seneca Street in Oswego, passed away Monday, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. Mr. Gunther was born in Oswego, and was a life resident. He was a veteran of the US Army. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a millwright with the Alcan Corp. in Oswego, and with General Motors in Syracuse. He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Miuccio) Gunther of Oswego; his mother, Catherine Deming of Oswego; 3 sons, Jay R. Gunther Jr. of Mexico, Randall Gunther of Mexico, and David Gunther of Syracuse; a step-daughter, Heather Mulcahey of Oswego; a brother, George Gunther of Florida; 6 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, John Gunther and James Gunther; 2 sisters, Amy Clavelli and Lois Terminella; and his step-father, Richard Deming. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Friday, in St. Paul’s Church. Calling hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00pm Thursday, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home in Oswego.

Charles W. Johnson February 28, 2010 Charles W. Johnson, 87, of DeRuyter, passed away February 28, 2010. He was born in Burlington Flats and retired from G.M. Fisher Body Plant in Syracuse, where he was a tin smith. He was a member of UAW Local 854. Charlie was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving as a B-24 pilot. He was a member of Woodford Burdick Post 894 American Legion. He was a former member of the DeRuyter Masonic Lodge and the Odd Fellows Lodge; he served on the Share Program and food pantry; he was named DeRuyter citizen of the year; former deacon of the United Church of DeRuyter, and assisted the Boy Scouts. Surviving: daughters, Sharon (David) Gaudio of Chittenango and Karen (Robert) Crandall of Georgetown; sons, Charles Jr. (Joyce) of Burlington Flats and Brian (Sally) of Buffalo; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Francis Willetts; and son, Thomas. Service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, DeRuyter. Bessie L. Lanphear May 15, 2010 Bessie L. Lanphear, 103, of State Route 5, Chittenango, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 15, 2010, in Upstate Medical University Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past 15 days. Born in Barnes Corners on August 14, 1906, she was the daughter of Oakley and Eve Lena Kidiney Smith. A resident of the area since 1939, Mrs. Lanphear was educated in Barnes Corners schools. She married H.K. "Ken" Lanphear, who died in 1980. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Lanphear was employed by the Resnick Company, formerly of Syracuse, and had previously owned and operated the Northern Farm Company, which produced maple syrup. Mrs. Lanphear belonged to several organizations in her earlier years and was of the Methodist faith. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and William Heller of Hudson, FL; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harvey W. and Ginny Lanphear and Gary L. and Sue Lanphear, all of Chittenango; six grandchildren, Kori Gerbig, and Kim, Kenneth, Kevin, Gary C. and Terry Lanphear; 10 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Sydney, Sarah, Kyle, Austin, Kera, Cassidy, Madeline, Shila and Jessie; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by seven sisters. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday from Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 300 South Peterboro Street, Canastota. Interment will be made in West Lowville Rural Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

He enjoyed traveling to Puerto Rico in the winters and his summer vacations at Brantingham Lake with his family. Anthony J. Ponzo June 14, 2010 Anthony J. Ponzo, 76, who retired to Estero, FL, and resided in Charlotte, NC, with his daughter Debi during his illness, passed away Monday June 14, in Charlotte. Born in Syracuse, he was raised in Solvay and moved to Florida following retirement. He served in the U.S. Army and was employed by General Motors in Syracuse for 40 years before retiring as a plant manager in 1992. Mr. Ponzo formerly served on the Camillus Board of Assessment. He was predeceased by his wife, Karen Pagona, in 2000. He is survived by two sons, Mark (Lisa Bradley) Ponzo of S. Elgin, IL, and Michael (Sandra Burt) Ponzo of Scottsdale, AZ; a daughter, Debi (Chip) Hills of Charlotte, NC; 10 grandchildren, Ashley, Stephanie, Lindsey, Cale, Brittany, Cailee, Vanessa, Jaclyn, Ethan and Nick; a sister, Jeanne Furst of Potomac, MD; and several nieces and nephews. Michael Prosonic May 17, 2010 Michael Prosonic, 91, of Syracuse, passed on May 17, 2010. Michael was reunited with his loving wife, May Jane in heaven. He retired in 1982 from General Motors Fisher Body where he was employed for 43 years, he was a member of local union of the United Auto Workers #854, and he was one of the first union organizers at Brown Lipe Chapin plant in Syracuse. He served as a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Air Force, in WWII, as a flight engineer on the B-17 Flying Fortress with the 327 the Bomb Group. He then served in the Air Force Reserve for six years. He was an active golfer and a member of the Calvary Club, the National Rifle Association, American Air Museum and Post 1468 of the American Legion. He was a past member of the Skyline and Liverpool Country Club. Surviving are a son, Jerry of Syracuse; sisters, Mary Castle of Allentown, PA, Kay Prosonic of Syracuse; a brother, Steve of Port Richey, FL; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michaels Church, Onondaga Hill. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. No calling hours. Joseph J. Scarsi May 20, 2010 Joseph J. Scarsi, 88, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday at his home. A life resident of Syracuse, he owned and operated Scarsi Mobil Station, retiring after 40 years. He was a communicant of St. Daniel's Church. Mr. Scarsi served his country proudly during WWII in the United States Army Air Corps. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Zerrillo Scarsi, in 2003. Joseph is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Steve) Frank of Syracuse; son, Joseph J. (Sue) Scarsi Jr. of Tennessee; brother, Angelo (Carmella) Scarsi of Syracuse; grandchildren, Mark (Margaret) Salatino, Renee (Patrick) Hughes, Mark (Sara) Frank, Christopher Frank, Gregory Frank, Christopher (Barbara) Scarsi and Cory Scarsi; and three great-grandchildren, Daniel and Ryan Salatino and Vivienne Frank. The family would like to thank Joe's many nieces and nephews for their love and support throughout the years. James M. Snyder May 7, 2010 James M. Snyder, 83, of Camillus, passed away Friday. Born in Syracuse, he lived in Rome, NY, Camillus, and Florida before moving to Tennessee in 2007. He was a Navy veteran of WW II. James was a member of the United Auto Workers as a machinist and tool and die maker for General Motors Corp. He was formerly employed by Longley Jones Real Estate Agency as a real estate broker. He was also a former communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Warners. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. James was predeceased by his wife, the former June Fogarty; parents, Raymond and Magdalin Snyder; and sister, Marjorie Snyder. Surviving are his daughters, Susan (Robbie) Sherrill, Lorraine Phillips, Julie (Nate) Willsey, Mary (James) Ritter, Denise Snyder, Nancy (Michael) Karpenko, Maureen (Charles) Hayes; sons, James (Gail) Snyder and Matthew (Melissa) Snyder; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Patricia Sloan; and nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. He was a WWII veteran. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his son, Gary. William is survived by his wife, Mary Wroblewski; sons, Thomas and James Wroblewski; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Assumption Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY or to St. Rose of Lima Church Endowment Fund.
