Yes, they make Volvos with manual transmissions, though they seem to have had a little trouble with it. The company is recalling several hundred cars to fix a problem with the gearshift lever.

The Cars: 2010-2011 Volvo C30, 2010 Volvo S40, 2010 Volvo V50

The Problem: Cars equipped with the optional six-speed manual transmission may experience trouble with the gearshift due to a stud assembly on the gearshift that wasn't tightened to correct specification during assembly. Because of the improper torque, the gearshift cable and or the stud assembly can come loose, effectively disconnecting the gearshift from the transmission and making it impossible for the driver to shift into or out of gear. If the gearshift becomes disconnected while driving, it could increase the chance of an accident.

The Fix: Dealers will simply open up the center console and tighten the stud assembly to the proper torque. The adjustment will be made free of charge under Volvo Recall No. R227 and NHTSA Recall ID No. 10V255000. The recall begins in June 2010 and owners can either contact their local dealer or Volvo directly at 1-800-458-1552 or customercare@volvoforlife.com.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 536. While it doesn't sound like much, Volvo has sold only 3045 S40s, 1062 V50s and 1990 C30s so far in 2010. Out of 6097 vehicles total, the recall represents roughly 11 percent of new S40s, V50s and C30s, not including any sold in late 2009.
